UKAD welcomes latest developments from WADA Moscow laboratory investigation

Following a recent announcement from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has welcomed the latest developments in the agency’s mission to extract all relevant athlete samples stored at the former Moscow Laboratory for investigation.

WADA has reported that their five-person team has successfully retrieved more than two thousand athlete samples and reassigned these to a WADA accredited laboratory, outside Russia. These samples could be subject to further analysis as part of WADA’s ongoing investigation into historical doping cases of Russian athletes.

Trevor Pearce CBE QPM, UKAD Chair commented: “We welcome this latest update from WADA on the progress of their investigation.

“Securing these samples is the next step to identifying those who have broken the rules, and could lead to subsequent prosecutions, bans, and the removal of medals and records from cheating athletes. I am pleased to see that the pragmatic steps to discuss potential Adverse Analytical Findings (AAF) with International Federations are underway.

“We wait with interest the next developments from WADA, to confirm authenticity of the digital information retrieved by their team in January.”

WADA has produced a timeline highlighting the upcoming stages of their investigation including associated deadlines.
