From Paris to pre-Season: UKAD release testing figures for summer 2024
UK Anti-Doping’s (UKAD) latest testing report is now available to read, covering July to September 2024 (Quarter two of Financial Year 2024/25).
UKAD conducted 2,206 anti-doping tests during Quarter two. The most tested sports were football, rugby (both league and union), cricket, athletics, and professional boxing.
Testing across the summer months continued to build upon the momentum established by UKAD in the first quarter, focussing on both Team GB and ParalympicsGB squads heading to Paris 2024. The period also captured key sporting events and the pre-season window for several sports, with athletes returning to squad training.
Hamish Coffey, UKAD’s Director of Operations, said
“UKAD is proud to have completed a comprehensive pre-Games testing programme for Paris 2024, which commenced over a year before the Games. Twenty-three UKAD Doping Control Personnel and three members of our Testing Team also worked at Paris to support the Games-time Testing Programme.”
“We’ve recently added to our Doping Control Personnel with the recruitment of more Chaperones to support athletes through the testing process. We’re looking forward to working with our new members to promote safe and fair sport.”
UKAD’s risk-based and intelligence-led testing programme targets the areas of sport with the greatest risks associated with doping. UKAD tests across more than 50 sports, including Olympic and Paralympic sports, as well as professional and team sports; many of which are unique in their doping risks. Testing figures are reported each quarter.
