Major Games Education Programme

Clean Sport, Clean Games and a Clean Conscience.

Our Major Games education programme is here to help you prepare well in advance of the Games in which you are aiming to attend.

All athletes and athlete support personnel (ASP) must complete the Major Games programme – so keep an eye out for 100% me and Squeaky, our Major Games duck!

The facts - what you need to know

  • The UK has a Clean Games Policy that sets out the commitments of the British Olympic Association (BOA), British Paralympic Association (BPA) and all four home nation Commonwealth Games Agencies (CGAs) for pre-Games education of athletes and athlete support personnel

  • Any long-listed athlete must complete the required level of education as specified in the Clean Games Policy

  • Those shortlisted then need to complete an additional games specific workshop, known as Clean Games.

  • Any coaches or ASP working with long-listed athletes need to complete mandatory education. In addition to this, any coaches and ASP travelling with athletes (and accredited Games-time) need to complete a games specific workshop, known as Clean Games.

  • UK Anti-Doping leads and coordinates the Clean Games Policy, and works in partnership with National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and Home Country Sport Councils to implement the pre-games education programme.

  • NGBs must ensure they organise the required education sessions and keep accurate records of those in attendance, sharing registers with UKAD for monitoring purposes.

What that means for you

NGBs and performance staff must work closely with UKAD to ensure all relevant athletes have opportunities to access and complete this education. NGBs can use UKAD Accredited Educators or UKAD National Trainers to deliver the Clean Sport Education. If you choose to use UKAD Accredited Educators please advise UKAD so you can access relevant resources.

UKAD will report to the BOA, BPA or relevant CGAs, informing them of education compliance in line with the Clean Games Policy on a sport by sport basis.

What you should do

  • Attend all education sessions or equivalent as required

  • Make sure you complete and sign the register
