UKAD signs the Muslim Athlete Charter

UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has signed the Muslim Athlete Charter to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to equality and diversity for all.

UKAD sought to sign the Muslim Athlete Charter to listen, learn, and adopt good practices to ensure athletes feel supported in their clean sport journey and to help colleagues in the organisation to flourish.

The Charter is part of the anti-doping organisation’s aim to becoming fully accredited with the Nujum Sports Muslim Athlete Charter, which will help UKAD to strengthen its voice and demonstrate zero tolerance towards any form of discrimination.

UKAD’s Equality and Diversity Working Group, commented:

“We believe this is another positive step for UKAD in helping the organisation to better understand the faith and cultural needs of our Muslim colleagues and the athletes we work with.

“We work with a range of sports and athletes, providing them with education and anti-doping testing throughout the year, so it’s important that we continue to learn and strive to do more to support each person’s individual needs. We believe signing this Charter is another way to help us do this.”

On signing the Charter, CEO and Founder of Nujum Sports, Ebadur Rahman, said:

“Having signed the Charter, UKAD is joining a positive movement of solidarity, equality, and recognition of the contribution Muslims make in their organisation and within the sports they work with.

“Nujum is here to support organisations and to contribute positively to their equality and diversity agenda. We are here to help them aspire to be even more inclusive and build on the passion and love we have for sports, players and fans.”

By signing the Charter, UKAD hopes it can continue working Nujum Sports to get fully accredited in the future.
