UKAD CEO reacts to full CAS decision on Russia ban
Following the publication by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) of the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) full decision on the non-compliance of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), UKAD Chief Executive Nicole Sapstead said, “The full decision from CAS goes no way to reducing our frustration at the reduction and caveats of the sanctions imposed on Russia.
“The CAS panel acknowledges that more severe sanctions would impact the new generation of Russian athletes, but this egregious attack on the values of sport was perpetrated by the administrators and officials who will not feel the consequences of their behaviour.
“We understand however, that this is the end of the options for recourse. We will channel our energy into supporting the anti-doping community and WADA to ensure that this can never happen again.
“The integrity of international sport has been brought into question with this scandal and it is incumbent on all of us who care about the values of sport to do everything we can to build a system that truly respects clean athletes and removes those who cheat.”
