Consistent annual number of anti-doping tests conducted by UK Anti-Doping
UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) releases its testing reports each quarter and its latest report is now available to read, covering October to December 2024 (quarter three of the Financial Year 2024/25).
UKAD conducted 1,935 anti-doping tests during quarter three. The most tested sports were football, rugby (both league and union), athletics and professional boxing.
The report, compared alongside the organisation’s previous reports, shows that UKAD conducted 8,940 total tests in 2024 (January - December) - a steady increase from the same period in 2023 (8,816 total tests), in part due to their pre-Games testing for Paris 2024 alongside UKAD’s domestic and national-level testing programmes.
The organisation is focussed on delivering another comprehensive testing programme across 2025, targeting the areas of sport with the greatest risks associated with doping.
Hamish Coffey, UKAD’s Director of Operations, said:
“I am pleased to see a consistent number of tests being delivered year on year. It is no small task to deliver testing across more than 50 sports, so I’d like to thank our expert group of Doping Control Personnel for their commitment to testing, and to all athletes who have contributed to the testing process. Testing of athletes is essential to deter and detect wrongdoing in sport. Thank you for supporting clean sport.”
UKAD’s risk-based and intelligence-led testing programme covers more than 50 sports, including Olympic and Paralympic sports, as well as professional and team sports; many of which are unique in their doping risks.

A significant amount of this funding is allocated to UKAD’s athlete testing, results analysis and legal services. The organisation generates additional income from its contracted testing programme and major events services.
