Three appointments made to UKAD Athlete Committee

UKAD has appointed three new members to its Athlete Committee. GB Paralympic powerlifter Ali Jawad, University of Birmingham doctoral researcher and runner Andrew Heyes and GB Olympic cyclist Callum Skinner will commence their three-year tenure on 1 January 2018.

The UKAD Athlete Committee, chaired by former Team GB rower Sarah Winkless MBE, works to ensure the views of the athlete community are represented on matters related to doping in sport.

Olympic, Paralympic and professional sports are all represented on the Committee. The three new appointments will join Andrew Triggs Hodge MBE, Emma Pooley and Emma Wiggs on the Committee.

UKAD Athlete Committee Chair, Sarah Winckless MBE, said:

“We received a great number of high calibre candidates for the roles on the Athlete Committee, which shows how important this topic is to our elite athletes. It also made it a very tough job to shortlist and then appoint. We chose Ali, Andrew and Callum as we were impressed by their breadth and diversity of knowledge, experience and commitment to clean sport.

“I believe each of them will bring something new and fresh to the Committee, complementing our current members, and this can only help UKAD in its mission to work more closely with athletes across all sports. I look forward to working with them so we can learn more about the athlete experience and how best to support them so they have all the right tools to practise the values of clean sport.”
